Bloomington man accused of raping woman in wheelchair

Posted

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A Bloomington man was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a wheelchair this week.

Bloomington Police public information officers said 20-year-old Austin Bishop threatened a 24-year-old woman with a knife and told her to undress after he was invited into her home Sunday. Police said the two knew one another.

Officers said Bishop knocked the woman’s wheelchair over and pinned her to the ground before the assault began.

Bishop told police the assault happened because he forgot to take his medication for a mental illness.

Following the incident, Bishop told a family member about the assault and police were soon notified.

Bishop was booked in to Monroe County Jail without bond. He was preliminarily charged with rape and criminal confinement.
