BLOOMINGTON -- Indiana University - Bloomington sent out a public safety advisory to students and employees on Tuesday, following the university's third confirmed cases of mumps.

IU Bloomington had two cases confirmed in late February. Since this is the third situation, it is considered to be a mumps outbreak by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention standards.

All three of the individuals who have contracted the illness live in off-campus housing, according to the university.

The university stated that they are working with the Monroe County Health Department and the Indiana State Department of Health on addressing those who may have come into contact with the three individuals, and taking measures to prevent further transmission of mumps.
