BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A student who may have wanted to harm himself or another person prompted Indiana University to send an emergency alert to students Sunday.
The alert was issued at 5:15 p.m. and told students to "Take safe shelter" and "Lock doors"
IU police later said they received a report of a student wanting to harm himself and another student with a handgun. After receiving credible information that the student was on campus, IUPD issued the alert.
IUPD and Bloomington Police took him in custody without incident at 5:41 p.m. He claimed he does not own a gun, and police didn't find a gun in his possession.
The student received an immediate medical evaluation. No criminal charges have been filed.
The alert has been lifted and students have been told they can resume their normal activities.
