MONROE CO. — A man has been arrested and charged after a forced entry into the home of artist John Mellencamp, according to Monroe County Sheriff Deputies.

Monroe County Deputies responded to an alarm call, where they found the security gate of Mellencamp's home rammed open.

Deputies eventually found Robert Carter in one of the buildings of the property. Carter told police that he was on Mellencamp's property because he was there to "arrest Mellencamp for supporting a government" that Carter does not support, according to Sheriff Brad Swim.

Carter also admitted to kicking in the door of the primary residence.

The burglar was arrested and released in the dame day from Monroe County Jail on Wednesday, February 6.

According to the Monroe County, Carter had recent social media posts that prompted an advisory for law enforcement to watchful of him. Carter was then found with a firearm by Bloomington Police.

He was taken for a mental evaluation, then to Monroe County Correction Center for booking. He was released by the court the following day.
