MONROVIA, Ind--The doors are open to a significant addition to the Monroe-Gregg School District in Monrovia.
The Center For Performing Arts at Monrovia High School was built in just over one year for $8.7 million dollars.
Interim School Superintendent Dr. William Roberson says the project was paid for out of the district’s budget and without a tax increase.
A 600-seat auditorium sits at the center of the facility with a stage and orchestra pit, plus high-quality sound, lighting and video systems.
The building also houses band and choir rooms along with dressing and makeup rooms.
The former high school band and choir rooms will be used for extra classroom space.
Dr. Roberson, who is retiring, says the Monroe-Gregg School Board developed a five-year building and improvement plan in 2013.
“The strategic plan also included improvements in academics, facilities, finance, safety, technology, communications and athletics,” according to Roberson.
And while the Center For Performing Arts is a school facility, it will also be used for community events.
