BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A group of Bloomington neighbors is concerned about a streetlight that’s been out for months at a school bus stop and the lack of response they’ve received from their Homeowners Association.
“It’s an accident waiting to happen, so we are trying to prevent that,” said Anatole Cakmak. “I have a fifth grader and I have a freshman and they wait right here and right in the morning a lot of vehicles come and go and it’s dark.”
Cakmak and three other neighbors in the Fieldstone subdivision say they’ve called their Homeowners Association multiple times about fixing the streetlight, but they’ve never got a response.
“We are paying a yearly fee of over $100 each house, so that adds up to a lot of money,” said Vincent Isom. “Not to have them address this need, such as a simple lightbulb that’s been out for months is unacceptable.”
They say the light sits over the area where their children get on the bus each morning and having it out poses a danger to them and to other drivers.
“We need the lights on so at least the parents in the house watching their kids can see them,” said Joan Jacobs. “We can’t see them because it’s too dark and I know that If I can’t see them, no one else can.”
An Attorney for the HOA says they had Duke Energy come out this week to repair three streetlights within the subdivision, but not the one parents are concerned about. They say now that we’ve reached out to them they will submit a request to repair that streetlight as well.
