MORGAN COUNTY — Improvements are coming to a Morgan County intersection that's seen its share of wrecks.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has installed a stoplight at the intersection of State Road 144 and Mann Road/Centenary Drive. It will be activated on July 16. Right now, the intersection east of Mooresville has a flashing yellow light for drivers on 144, and a flashing red for the other two roads.
There are two reasons for the improvements. The intersection has long been a challenging one for drivers on Mann and Centenary. Vehicles heading east on 144 are coming down a hill as drivers reach the intersection and are often traveling at high speeds. The stoplight eliminates that problem.
There is also the Interstate-69 project. As work continues to remake State Road 37 into an interstate, the official state detour will take cars and trucks on 144, thus increasing traffic. That happens next year.
