MARTINSVILLE, Ind. -- The safety of drivers is the focus in Martinsville where city leaders are fixing roads before they become heavily traveled when I-69 construction begins.

Martinsville Mayor Shannon Kohl says they've received nearly $11 million in grants from the Indiana Department of Transportation to help improve the roads in the city.

She says the grants have taken a huge burden off of the taxpayers. The city will only have to pay $1.9 million for the projects leading up to the I-69 construction.

City leaders hope the construction will also help bring more people to Downtown Martinsville, which is currently being revitalized.
