MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. -- A Mooresville man is facing criminal charges after prosecutors say he tried to pass counterfeit money at a Camby store.

On May 5, Morgan County sheriff’s deputies were called to Daniels Market at 7477 E Hadley Road.

Owner Betty Daniels said a man tried to pass a counterfeit ten dollar bill and was captured on surveillance video, according to court documents.

Prosecutors say the suspect, Eli Murley, gave the clerk a counterfeit bill.

When the clerk began inspecting the bill using a counterfeit detection marker, the suspect then left the store which quickly pulled out of the parking lot.

The store owner posted the image on Facebook and received numerous messages saying the suspect was Murley.

Murley is charged with felony counterfeiting in Morgan County.

He currently has a pending theft charge in Hendricks County, and records show he failed to appear in court on May 10 and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He also has several pending criminal cases in Morgan County stemming from a 2016 arrest for burglary, theft, corrupt business influence, carrying a handgun without a license, unlawful possession of a syringe and narcotic drug possession.

Murley also has a pending paraphernalia possession charge in Johnson County.

Call 6 investigates left a message for Murley’s court-appointed attorney.
