MARTINSVILLE, Ind. – The state is wrapping up construction this month on the section of Interstate 69 between Martinsville and Bloomington, which means it's almost time to begin the next phase of the project.

The section of I-69 between Martinsville and Indianapolis will follow State Road 37 most of the way and then go through the Martinsville business district, the Johnson County suburbs and the Indianapolis Southwest Side.

When finished, it will be possible to drive between Indianapolis and Evansville on an interstate highway.

Residents and business owners in Morgan, Johnson and Marion counties who are interested in learning more about the plans can attend a public information meeting hosted by the Indiana Department of Transportation.

It will be at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 17 at Martinsville High School, 1360 East Gray Street.

What’s known as “Segment Six” will take an estimated five-years to build and will join up with I-465 near the current Harding Street, State Road 37 interchange.

Original plans called for the work to be done by 2027, but the time was cut by three years recently when Governor Eric Holcomb announced an additional $600 million in spending, money that's coming from higher tolls on trucks using the Indiana Toll Road.
