CADIZ — A Muncie man died and another suffered life-threatening injuries Friday night in a one-vehicle crash in Henry County.
Aaron Lee Hassert, 33, died when he lost control of a 2014 Chevrolet Impala on State Road 38 and struck a tree, according to information from Indiana State Police. Hassert's passenger, a 30-year-old Muncie man, was transported to an Indianapolis hospital by medical helicopter with life-threatening injuries.
State police said troopers responded to State Road 38 at West County Road 100 North just after 8:30 p.m. Friday where they found the Impala off the southwest side of State Road 38 in a small grove of trees.
Investigators believe Hassert was driving westbound on SR 38 at a high rate of speed when the Impala left the north side of the road. He then over-corrected and steered the Impala back across the road where it left the south side of SR 38 and struck a tree with such force that it knocked the engine out of the vehicle.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
SR 38 was closed at the scene from 8:30 p.m. Friday to 12:30 a.m. Saturday.
