MUNCIE -- Two terms is enough for Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler.

In a city hall announcement Friday, the 76-year-old mayor said he would not run for a third term this November.

"I'm at a time in my life where I want to spend more time with my wife, children and grandchildren," Tyler said.

The mayor, who is a Democrat, took office in 2012 after serving six years as a state representative.

Tyler is a Muncie native, a graduate of Muncie Central High School and spent 42 years with the Muncie Fire Department.

The City of Muncie website lists some of Tyler's accomplishments including the re-opening of two fire stations, plus road, sidewalk and alley repaving projects.

The city also says nearly 4,000 new jobs were created in Muncie during Tyler's time in office.MORE TOP STORIES| https://www.theindychannel.com/news/local-news/indianapolis/driver-critical-after-going-airborne-off-i-65-and-into-a-building”>Driver critical after going airborne off I-65 and into a building | https://www.theindychannel.com/news/national/new-palestine-native-killed-in-north-carolina-lion-attack>Indiana woman killed in North Carolina lion attack | https://www.theindychannel.com/news/national/new-palestine-native-killed-in-north-carolina-lion-attack>Indiana woman killed in North Carolina lion attack | https://www.theindychannel.com/news/call-6-investigators/car-dealer-agrees-to-pay-62k-to-customers-after-attorney-general-files-lawsuit> Car dealer agrees to pay $62K to customers after Attorney General files lawsuit | https://www.theindychannel.com/news/local-news/hamilton-county/carmel/tyler-trent-has-passed-away-after-his-courageous-fight-against-bone-cancer> Tyler Trent loses his battle with bone cancerTop Trending Videoshttps://www.youtube.com/embed/videoseries?list=PL1XB30Q_dhR9ivBaTmp2mxoGHCtopnngS</a> width=”560”>
