Muncie teenage bicyclist hit by police car

MUNCIE, Ind. -- A teenager was injured early Wednesday morning after he was hit by a police car in Muncie, Indiana. 

The crash happened near the intersection of Hoyt Avenue and Memorial Drive around 12:40 a.m.

Police say the 17-year-old was riding northbound on Hoyt Avenue and ran a red light at the intersection. A passenger car stopped before hitting him, but a Muncie Police Department officer hit the bike.

The teenager was taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
