FISHERS — It was not a normal Tuesday morning at Riverside Junior High School in Fishers.
The Army National Guard landed its twin-engine UH-72 Lakota helicopter in the school's football field.
Riverside Engineering and Technology Teacher Bradley Bill arranged for the visit, to give seventh and eighth graders a chance to learn how the big chopper works.
"It's a great opportunity for my students to see the concepts of lift and thrust on an Army helicopter and how that relates to the projects that we make in our class," Bradley said.
Bradley said students were able to learn about a potential career path they might not otherwise have considered.
He also noted that the chopper had male and female pilots.
The UH-72 Lakota if often used by the guard to respond to disasters and for medical evacuations.
