NOBLESVILLE — Noblesville Schools announced Thursday the latest two-year contract agreement with the Noblesville Teachers' Forum brought the most significant salary increase for the district's teachers in 40 years.
The contract promises an averaged 9.75 percent increase in the first year, and an additional averaged 4.15 percent increase the second.
Noblesville Schools employs 700 teachers.
The district approved a $50 million referendum from the community in 2018 aimed at improving the schools.
According to Noblesville Schools, the pay increase will address pay gaps of mid-career teachers that were hit the hardest by reductions in state education funding.
The statement issued by Noblesville Schools, in part, read:
"With this increase, Noblesville teachers are more competitively placed relative to other Hamilton County teachers.
The passage of the November 2018 referendum established funds specifically earmarked for teacher compensation, and the district also spent 100% of the estimated savings from their recently reduced state pension obligation on teachers. The remainder of referendum money is being used for significant student and staff safety and mental health enhancements."
The new contract also will enhance bereavement benefits, increase select leave days, and address compensation issues of extracurricular assignments.
Teachers consented to the salary increases on October 2, and the Noblesville Schools Board of Trustees approved it on October
Recently, Carmel teachers also received the largest pay increase in about ten years.
