NORTH SALEM — The U.S. Department of Education has recognized North Salem Elementary School as a National Blue Ribbon school.
North Salem is part of the North West Hendricks School Corporation, and has received “A” ratings from the state for more than ten years, the district said.
The USDOE recognizes high performing, exemplary schools based on all student scores on state assessments or nationally normed tests.
The department said North Salem Elementary School is “an inspiring example of how teachers, parents, and community leaders can work together to help students prepare for what comes next.”
In total, 317 public and 50 private schools received the distinction across the country, including six elementary schools and two high schools in Indiana.
“The most valuable instructional practice we have is our commitment to treating each child as an individual and helping them reach their own personal growth goals,” said principal Tiffany Cox in a statement to WRTV. “We see our school and our community as an extended family, and we believe that we can accomplish any goal if we work as a team.”
