PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. -- A deputy with the Putnam County Sheriff's Department shot and injured a suspect late Thursday night in West Greencastle.

Three deputies responded to a house around 11:30 p.m. for a domestic disturbance call involving a woman and her live-in boyfriend.

Deputies found the woman at a neighbor's house. When they went to the woman's home, state police say the suspect pointed a firearm at one deputy causing another to fire his gun.

Adam B. Wagner, 35, was hit in the torso. He was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

State police say the woman and her three-year-old twins who were in the house at the time of the disturbance are doing well.

The deputy involved in the shooting has been identified by ISP as 21-year-old Jeffery L. Freeman, a nine-month member of the Putnam County Sheriff's Department and a recent graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

Two other deputies did not fire their weapons. State Police say 32-year-old Anthony J. Brown has been with the sheriff's department nearly 16 months and 22-year-old Special Deputy Ian Zeffel has been with the department for six weeks.
