WAYNE COUNTY — The Ohio truck driver arrested for last Thursday's Interstate-70 crash in which four children died, faces nine felony charges.
Formal charges have been filed in Wayne Superior Court in Richmond. 33-year-old Corey Withrow is charged with four counts of causing death when operating a motor vehicle, one count of causing catastrophic injuries, and four counts or reckless homicide.
Investigators say Withrow was impaired when the crash happened last Thursday on I-70, about 60-miles east of Indianapolis.
Court records from Ohio show two cases last year involving Withrow—one for possession of heroin and another for aggravated possession of drugs.
The four children who died in the I-70 crash are: 15-year-old Anesa Noel Acosta, 13-year-old Quintin Michael McGowan, 8-year-old Brekkin Riley Bruce, and 6-year-old Trentin Beau Bruce.
34-year-old Aaron Bruce of Kansas City, Missouri was driving the car the children were in. A passerby pulled him from the flaming vehicle but was not able to get to the children. Aaron Bruce was seriously injured. Withrow, the trucker, did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
According to a state police public information officer, police arrived to find a passenger car and a semi pulling a box trailer both on fire, just west of a construction zone. State police investigators indicated the truck came upon slowed traffic near the construction zone, but did not slow down. The truck slammed into the passenger car which then hit the back of another semi.
