FISHERS — Two people are dead after a crash involving a semi-truck Wednesday evening on Interstate 69 southbound in Fishers, according to state police.
The crash was reported around 5:30 p.m. near 106th Street.
An Indiana State Police trooper arrived on the scene and found two people, who were unresponsive, trapped in a car, ISP Sgt. John Perrine said in a press release. They both later died.
The identities of the people killed in the crash were later identified as 19-year-old Marcus Padgett of Spencer and 17-year-old Elizabeth Robertson of Pendleton.
The driver of the semi-tractor trailer, a 52-year-old man, of Georgia, involved in the crash was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, Perrine said.
Investigators believe the driver of the car swerved to avoid a shredded tire, lost control, and spun into the path of the semi-truck, Perrine said. The semi-truck struck the driver's side of the car.
Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors of the crash, Perrine said.
The crash remains under investigation.
