INDIANAPOLIS — A single-car crash and car fire early Saturday morning on the south side of Indianapolis left one person dead.
Indianapolis Fire Department crews and emergency personnel were called around 1 a.m. to the area of East Southern and Madison avenues on the report of a serious crash, Jason Kistler, a public information officer for IFD said in a press release. When they arrived, they found a car fully engulfed in flames.
The driver was killed in the crash, Kistler said. Their identity has not been released at this time.
Accident investigators learned the car was driving fast when the driver went into the median, lost control, struck a metal road sign pole and several trees before the car caught on fire, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officer Aaron Hamer said in a press release.
The crash is being investigated by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
