INDIANAPOLIS — One person was found dead following a house fire early Wednesday on the southwest side of Indianapolis.
According to a report from the Indianapolis Fire Department, firefighters were called to the house in the 2800 block of Newhart Street shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they found light smoke showing from the second floor of the house and fire in the attic.
During a search of the house, one adult victim was found dead, firefighters said.
A joint investigation is ongoing between IFD, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the Marion County Coroner's Office to determine the cause of death, the victim's identity and the cause of the fire.
Damage is estimated at $190,000, according to the fire department.
