One person killed in plane crash near Kokomo

KOKOMO — One person died Saturday afternoon in a plane crash near Kokomo.

According to information from the Howard County Sheriff's Office, a twin-engine plane crashed around 5 p.m. in a soybean field near the southeast corner of State Road 22 and County Road 300 East.

One person was inside the plane, who the Howard County Coroner pronounced deceased.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified, and the scene will remain secured until they arrive, according to the sheriff's office.

The NTSB said they are investigating the crash.

The sheriff's office asked people to stay away from the scene since it is an active investigation that will likely be lengthy.

State Road 22 and County Road 300 have reopened.

The victim's identity is pending until authorities can alert family members.
