NOBLESVILLE — A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed Sunday afternoon in Noblesville, police said.

According to a report from Noblesville police, officers were called to the 19500 block of Cumberland Road shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday on report of a vehicle-pedestrian crash.

Police said a 2001 Mercury Marquis was traveling north on Cumberland Road when a pedestrian got into the path of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle told officers he was unable to avoid the collision. The pedestrian was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition, where he died early Monday.

Noblesville police have identified the victim as James O. Cross Jr., 91, of Noblesville.

The driver of the vehicle, George A. Allen, 85, of Cicero, was not injured, police said.

Police said alcohol, drugs and weather do not appear to have contributed to the crash.
