MARTINSVILLE, Ind. -- An Indianapolis man was killed in an accident on the IPL construction site in Martinsville Monday afternoon.
The accident happened around 2 p.m. at the IPL Eagle Valley CCGT construction site on Blue Bluff Road.
The Morgan County Sheriff's Department said the worker was struck in the head by an I-Beam/catwalk after a rigging device failed. He died from those injuries.
The man's identity has not been released but police say he was a member of Local Ironworkers 222 and from Indianapolis. He worked for Chicago Bridge & Iron.
The Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate to see whether any safety violations were present which caused or contributed to the man's death.
This is the second death for Chicago Bridget & Iron at the Martinsville construction site this year. A contractor was killed back in March when he was pinned between a trailer and a truck. The company was hit with 3 serious violations for a total proposed penalty of $18,900.
State officials said back in March that an inspection was conducted at the IPL Eagle Valley facility in 2014 and there were no safety violations.
IPL released the following statement Monday afternoon:
"Safety is always our top priority, and we will continue cooperating with emergency personnel to confirm details regarding the incident."
