BOONE CO. — The Humane Society for Boone County is asking for puppy food donations now that nine puppies have joined their shelter.

A pregnant boxer-mix surrendered to the shelter on January 22 gave birth five days later to nine healthy puppies. All of the puppies are bully breed mixes, according to Christy Brubaker, the director of canine foster and adoption.

"I am actually fostering her. She went into labor on the 27th at about 10 p.m.," Brubaker said. "She had eight puppies between then and 2:30 a.m. I went to bed and found a ninth puppy in the morning."

Donations can be made at the Lebanon Kroger, Zionsville Pet Value, Whitestown Pet Supplies Plus or PetCo, or on the porch of the shelter at 5366 South Indianapolis Road.

The puppies will be available for adoption in about seven to 11 weeks.
