INDIANAPOLIS — A 23-year-old pregnant woman who died after she was struck by an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer late Wednesday evening has been identified.
According to police, Officer Jonathon Henderson was traveling northbound on S. Harding Street and approaching the I-465 ramp when the crash occurred around 9:44 p.m. Investigators say Henderson, a 22-year-old veteran of IMPD, was on his way to work at the time of the crash.
Henderson immediately called for assistance to the scene and began rendering first aid to the victim, according to IMPD. She was rushed to Eskenazi Health in critical condition, but despite the best lifesaving efforts by medical staff the woman and her unborn child were both pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Marion County Coroner identified the woman as Ashlynn Lisby.
Henderson cooperated with investigators at the scene and immediately submitted to ta blood draw, which is standard protocol for anyone involved in a fatal crash.
Investigators do not believe driver impairment was a factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
