INDIANAPOLIS -- While the stage may be small, and the lights dim, local bar and grill Birdy's shares a strong connection to a music legend.
Owner Sue Turnbull never thought she'd see the day Prince would walk in.
"It was a fluke, really, for us," she said. "It was a Monday night. He was playing the Murat."
It was in the spring of 2002, and by chance, the after party venue fell through.
"They needed a room with a stage and an in-house PA," Turnbull said.
Prince showed up at Birdy's looking for that venue – and of course was welcomed on stage.
He performed for about an hour-and-a-half, from 1:30 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.
More than a decade later, Turnbull said she still remembers it like it was yesterday.
