FISHERS — What does Fishers have in common with Clarksville, Tenn. and Round Rock, Texas? They make up the top 3 in Money's 10 Best Places to Live 2019 list.
Fishers is third in the nation behind Clarksville and Round Rock on the list that was compiled using criteria such as economic health, cost of living, ethnic and economic diversity, public education, income, health and safety and ease of living and amenities, according to a release from the city. Economic factors, housing, health and safety, diversity and cost of living were given the greatest weight, while quality of life, education and local amenities were also considered.
"I’m incredibly proud that our city has once again been recognized as one of the best places to live in the nation,” Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness said. “This honor is truly a reflection of the residents, businesses, schools, and organizations that make Fishers the smart, vibrant, and entrepreneurial city that it is. I’m so privileged to serve this community."
Fishers topped Money's Best Place to Live list in 2017.
Money cites the Nickel Plate District, an "amped-up downtown" and The Yard, an upcoming 18-acre mixed use development, as key attributes in Fishers' favor. It also said Fishers has seen $90 million worth of investments from four finished projects, with another $170 million in investments coming in the next few years.
In terms of employment, Money said job growth in Fishers has expanded by 30.4% since 2010, while unemployment was 2.7% in 2018.
