WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Police at Purdue arrested a suspect in a reported sexual assault that happened Tuesday night.
The sexual assault happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday, near the Hilltop Apartments on campus. Police received the report around 1 a.m. Wednesday.
Police arrested Cheng Li, 28, at around 5 a.m. and he was taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail.
The victim told police she met Li on a chat app and they met outside her apartment building. At one point, Li followed the victim into her apartment.
According to Purdue University, Li is a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Food Science. He's from the Henan Province in China.
Li faces preliminary charges of criminal confinement and sexual battery.
