WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue student found dead in a residence hall Tuesday was identified by the Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office Friday morning.
The coroner said 21-year-old Eric Meyer of Carmel was found dead at Hillenbrand Hall around 10:18 p.m.
The Purdue University Fire Department said they were conducting a fire drill at the hall when a resident assistant discovered a locked room while conducting a walk through to ensure everyone had left the building.
Once inside, Meyer was believed to be passed out and Purdue University Police was contacted. He was pronounced dead by first responders at the scene.
The coroner's office said the investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of death and an autopsy has been completed. No foul play was suspected, but officials said it could take four to six weeks to learn the results.
