Skeletal remains found in Putnam County identified as man missing since 2016

PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. -- Human remains found in April 2018 have been identified as a man missing since November 2016.

The remains were found on April 26 in northwestern Putnam County, according to Indiana State Police. Investigators with ISP say a mushroom hunter discovered the skeletal remains in the Van Bibber Lake.

The man has been identified as William Wayne Johansen of rural Putnam County. He was reported missing on Nov. 15, 2016. He was 50 years old at the time of his disappearance. 

DNA was used to confirm his identity. Foul play isn't suspected, but a cause of death hasn't been determined.

Investigators say they believe there is no danger to the public.
