INDIANAPOLIS — "The Greatest Spectacle in Dog Walking" will take place virtually in less than a month.

IndyHumane's signature fundraiser, Mutt Strut, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 26 with an estimated 1,200 people participating, according to a news release. The shelter will broadcast the event on its Facebook page.

During the broadcast, IndyHumane will present fundraising awards for Top Dog, Top Team and the Mari Hulman George Volunteer Service Award. People and their dogs will then participate in a scavenger hunt, either in their neighborhood or by visiting sponsor locations around the city. Participants can win prizes by taking photos of or at various stations.

IndyHumane officials decided in July to move Mutt Strut to a virtual fundraiser due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was originally scheduled to take place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and was later rescheduled to occur at Victory Field before the decision was made to make it virtual.

People interested in participating can register online as an individual or a team. An average of 3,000 participate in Mutt Strut each year, according to IndyHumane.
