LIZTON — A roadside repairman was killed in a 3-vehicle crash Wednesday on I-74 near State Road 39 in Hendricks County.
According to a release from the Indiana State Police, Clinton Simmons, 30, Lebanon, had finished repairing a flat tire on a box truck and was putting tools back in his repair truck when a semi drove onto the shoulder of the road, pushing the box truck into Simmons' repair truck and striking him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi, Steven Sanchez, Indianapolis, was trapped in his truck and had to be removed. He was flown by medical helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital. The driver of the box truck was not injured.
Troopers believe Sanchez may have fallen asleep prior to driving onto the shoulder, and alcohol is not believe to be a factor in the crash.
The crash is still under investigation.
