RUSHVILLE, Ind. -- The only Walmart in Rushville, Indiana will close at the end of the month, the City of Rushville said Thursday.
Walmart corporate made the decision to close because it was an "older, smaller store that was underperforming," Rushville said in a Facebook post.
The closure will affect 95 employees.
The Rushville Walmart is the only one in Rush County, leaving many people upset at the decision.
"This poses a huge strain on our community," Arika Yager said on Facebook. "What can we expect from the City to help with the loss of jobs, loss of income from this business and the fact that it will send so many people out of town to purchase items?"
This will leave Kroger as the only major grocery store in the area. The closest Walmarts to Rushville are in Connersville, Shelbyville, Greenfield, or New Castle.
The store will close Feb. 28.
Less than a month ago, Walmart announced it was raising its minimum wage and handing out bonuses due to the new tax law.
