FLATROCK, Ind. -- A homeowner says he chased a suspected burglar out of his home Shelby County Tuesday afternoon.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Department initially responded to a call for shots fired in the area of downtown Flatrock. While they were headed to the scene, deputies were notified that a homeowner had chased a man out of his house.
"We came home and a guy ran out of our house, so I chased him a little bit," said Rob May. "I almost caught him, I almost caught him."
May said the man was trying to steal some firearms from his house, but he dropped them when May started chasing after him.
But the suspect had another gun.
It was a terrifying moment for Rob's wife, Amy, when she heard the gun go off while her husband was chasing the man.
"I heard two pops and I was like... surely, ya know, that did not just happen," said Amy.
"He shot back like a warning shot," said Rob. "Then he came and swung one all the way around me to the other side and shot again."
Rob says after the suspect fired the gun, he stopped chasing him.
The suspect, later identified as Cory Sowers, 29, ran to a nearby farm lot where he was apprehended by deputies.
Sowers is facing preliminary charges of burglary and robbery and has active warrants out of Marion County.
No one was injured.
The incident remains under investigation by the Shelby County Sheriff's Department.
