BOONE COUNTY — An 83-year-old Sheridan man died Thursday after he was struck by a vehicle after he had retrieved his mail.

According to a report from the Boone County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the 8400 block of East State Road 47 around 5:35 p.m. Thursday on a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle.

Deputies said Leon Brandenburg, 83, of Sheridan, had just retrieved his mail from his mailbox when he was struck by a 2007 Toyota RAV4 driven by a 41-year-old woman from Kirklin. Brandenburg was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was not injured.

The Boone County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team is investigating the crash. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, deputies said.
