SOUTHPORT, Ind. -- A 3-year-old in Southport was recently named the newest recruit at the Southport Police Department, and on Thursday, that new recruit got outfitted with a new set of wheels.
Sam Williams has developed an affinity for members of the Southport Police Department, visiting them several times each week.
"It's really neat. No matter how bad of a day you're having he comes in. He always has a big smile on his face," said Southport Police Chief Tom Vaughn.
It all started when his family bought him a police uniform, which he just had to go show off to his buddies behind the badge.
"When they saw that they said oh my gosh, you have to come take a picture for the Facebook page," said Sam's mother Christine Powell. "And then after that it just started rolling."
From there, officers pulled together the money to get the dedicated toddler a police cruiser of his own.
"For him to come up and have that interaction with us you know, that's starting I think what this country needs," said Chief Vaughn.
