SPEEDWAY — Speedway is asking residents to check their sump pump connections.
According to a release, the town launched a public education and outreach program asking residents to help identify and correct illegal sump pump and downspout connections. The aim of the program is to educate residents about the cost of illegal connections on wastewater customers, neighbors and the environment.
"In a neighborhood of 200 homes, it only takes six-to-eight sump pumps working full-time in wet weather to cause a back-up into basements, streets or waterways," town manager Jacob Blasdel said.
The town is providing, but not requiring, homeowners to get a free inspection. Inspections will last 10-to-20 minutes and if a problem is found, the town will waive the permit fee for work needing to be completed after the inspection for up to six months.
Inspections can be scheduled online here or over the phone at 317-246-4111.
