SPEEDWAY, Ind. -- A 11-month-old girl died at a Speedway day care Wednesday afternoon.
Police in Speedway say they received a call around 2 p.m. that a baby was unconscious and not breathing in her car seat at the Miracles and Blessings Day Care on 10th Street.
CPR was being performed on the baby when officers arrived. She was taken to Riley Hospital. Speedway police later said they were told the baby died.
The baby has been identified by the Marion County Coroner's Office as Taliah Brigham. The cause and manner of death is still pending.
Family and Social Services Administration, the state agency that licenses child care, is investigating.
Inspection records show the day care is an unlicensed, registered ministry. It was last inspected in March 2015 and no violations were found.
Per state law, registered ministries that accept federal vouchers like Miracles and Blessings Day Care must adhere to the same child/staff ratios followed by licensed centers.
Authorities say there were 36 children and one day care worker present at the time of the incident. The children ranged in age from infant to 10 years old.
Even if they were all first graders, the maximum number allowed with one day care worker is 20 children.
If the FSSA determines that the day care violated state regulations, sanctions could be issued.
