LAPEL — Three people were injured Saturday afternoon in a motorcycle crash during a benefit ride in Madison County.

Madison County Sheriff's deputies were called around 2 p.m. to the 8400 block of Old State Road 132 on the report of a crash, Sheriff Scott Mellinger said.

More than 40 motorcycles were in a benefit ride when a battery cover fell of one motorcycle causing at least two drivers to crash, according to the sheriff's office. At least three people were injured.

One driver was flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with a serious head injury, Mellinger said. The other two people suffered what appears to be non-life threatening injuries.

At this time, the identities of the people injured have not been released.

Additional details surrounding the crash have not been released.
