MONROE COUNTY — Indiana Conservation Officers have identified the three people who died in Lake Monroe Saturday.
They are 67-year-old Estella Huerta, 31-year-old Alejandro Hernandez-Huerta, and a boy. All were from Lawrence.
According to a report from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, witnesses reported seeing a vehicle drive down the Paynetown State Recreation Area boat ramp and enter the water. It happened about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
The driver of the vehicle reportedly called out for help and attempted to exit the vehicle, Indiana Conservation Officers said. The witnesses were not able to rescue the occupants before the vehicle became submerged.
