WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue University has been named one of the safest college campuses in the country.
The data, compiled by Alarms.org, shows that Purdue in West Lafayette is the twelfth safest campus in the country.
Of more than 40,000 students enrolled, Purdue had eight violent crimes and 256 property crimes, according to the most recent data from the FBI. The safety score was calculated by the rate of the crimes per 1,000 students, with violent crime weighted heavier.
Violent crimes include:
- murder/non-negligent manslaughter
- negligent manslaughter
- rape
- robbery
- aggravated assault
Property crimes include:
- burglary
- motor vehicle theft
- arson
Purdue was listed as the safest college campus in Indiana, by far. The next highest Indiana campuses are:
109. Indiana University - Bloomington
157. Ball State University
201. Indiana State University
229. IUPUI
