MONROE COUNTY—It's been nearly one-month since a tornado began in the Ellettsville area of Monroe County and headed northeast, leaving about a four-mile path of damage.

Cleaning up from the EF 2 tornado continues and this Saturday, July 13, volunteers hope to make a major dent in the work.

Barbara Ooley, the Washington Township Trustee in northern Monroe County, is organizing a tornado cleanup day. Volunteers are to meet, starting at 8 a.m., at the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church, 8799 Crossover Road. People who have chainsaws and yard tools are urged to bring them.

In addition to destroying four homes, Ooley says the tornado cut through a heavily-wooded area, leaving a tremendous number of tree limbs that need to be removed. Many yards remain littered with the limbs and other debris. Ooley says volunteers will go from house to house, cutting the limbs and dragging them to roadside pickup areas.

If you need additional information about the cleanup, Ooley can be reached at: 812-876-1158 or by email at: ooleyb@yahoo.com.
