PUTNAM COUNTY — A semi driver from Florida must consider himself fortunate, considering what happened early Thursday morning on I-70 in Putnam County.
61-year-old Michael Holliday of Jacksonville, Florida ended up at Terre Haute Regional Hospital, complaining of pain throughout his entire body.
According to Indiana State Police, Holliday was at the wheel of a 2019 Freightliner tractor-trailer on I-70 westbound, about 35-miles from the state line.
Holliday told investigators his truck had some sort of mechanical issue on the left side which caused him to lose control.
The ISP report says the semi went into a grassy median and continued traveling about 400 yards off the highway and then down a steep embankment before coming to rest in a creek. With help from first-responders, Holliday was able to climb out of the cab.
Heavy-duty wreckers were called in to get the truck out of the water.
