MUNCIE, Ind. -- Two people were shot, one fatally, in Muncie Thursday evening.

The shootings happened before 7 p.m. in the area of Kirby Avenue Ebright Street.

A suspect had been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.

Police say the victims were cousins Vincent Wolfe, 21, and Rondelle Wolfe. Vincent was shot in the head and died on the way to the hospital. Rondelle was shot in the back and is expected to recover.

Police said a suspect initially taken into custody was released as they investigate claims the shooting happened in self-defense.

The shooting comes just days after the city's first homicide of the year.

Rafael Rodriguez was shot and killed Sunday in his townhome.
