INDIANAPOLIS — Washington Square Mall has been added as a new drop-off recycling location for the Indianapolis Department of Public Works.

A new drop-off site was needed for the city's far east side after the recycling site at the Kroger, located at 10450 E. Washington St., closed in November.

According to Indy DPW, the city identified the mall as a potential location for recycling drop-off after receiving the community's input.

"Washington Square Mall will become a community site for the City's drop-off recycling program in February," Indy DPW's release read.

The site will be open to the public next month with three recycling boxes. The exact opening date and location within the mall parking lot have yet to be determined at the time of this report.

The city is still looking for property owners interested in hosting their land as a recycling drop-off:

"Any property owners interested in hosting a new recycling drop-off location should contact the Indy DPW recycling team at sustainindy@indy.gov. Site proposals for a new recycling location should have space approximately 80 feet long by 40 feet wide to accommodate the roll-off boxes, plus plenty of extra clearance for vehicle access."
