WATCH: Tribute to a fallen hero

KOKOMO, Ind. -- Nearly 3,000 people attended the funeral for fallen Howard County Deputy Carl Koontz. 

Koontz was shot and killed while serving a warrant on March 20.

Memorial tributes were given by Gov. Mike Pence, Jill Donnelly, the wife of Senator Joe Donnelly, and Howard County Sheriff Steve Rogers. 

Corporal Justin Markley and Deputy Jake Gibson also spoke about Deputy Koontz. 

Deputy Koontz's widow, Kassandra Koontz, gave a eulogy.

There were eight pallbearers from the Howard County Sheriff's Department and the Kokomo Police Department.

  • Deputy Chris Cramer

From the Kokomo Police Department:

  • Officer Gary Quirk
  • Officer Chris White
  • Officer Nate Gibson
  • Officer Brandon Hector
