INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Chief Randal Taylor provided an update on the curfew in effect and people gathering in Indianapolis
Taylor said officers were directed Sunday to permit and protect lawful protests and only intervene when there is a threat to public safety.
"The situation downtown is fluid and chaotic," Taylor said. "We are still reviewing these incidents and providing the information on what occurred."
Warnings were given to those still in downtown Indianapolis to remind them of the curfew, Taylor said. He is encouraging people to get home safely.
Officers started clearing the streets downtown at 8 p.m.
"I know you're angered, you have good reason to be angered, but you do not have good reason to be downtown," Taylor said.
