STORY, Ind. -- If you're looking for a summer get away from your busy world, look no further than Story, Indiana.
The small town in southern Central Indiana is bordered by the Monroe Reservoir, the Hoosier National Forest and the Brown County State Park.
The effect is to preserve a town that feels like a hidden gem from 1851.
Jacob Ebel and his wife Kate manage Story Inn in the once-thriving village. Story was founded by Dr. George Story in 1851, when it received its land patent from President Millard Filmore.
The Great Depression took its toll on Story, and the flooding to create Lake Monroe cut of access to Bloomington, making it a suddenly inconvenient location.
But the small village isn't a ghost town. Owners are focused on restoring buildings and attracting new generations of visitors.
Along with lodging in the inn, guests from all over can drive in or ride in to the restaurant, where American cuisine is grown right on site.
Thousands gather in the spring at Story's Indiana Wine Fair and in the fall at their Hoosier Hops and Harvest Festival.
