Zionsville cemetery destroyed after tornadoes touch down in Central Indiana

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. – Several of the tornadoes that touched down Monday night left a great amount of damage in a cemetery in Zionsville.

Union Lutheran Cemetery at 8802 250 S dates back to the early 1800s and caretaker, David Miender is in need of some help.

The damage is extensive with many grave sites destroyed and uprooted trees.

Justin Sparks, lead photographer of Inside The Polygon LLC said via Facebook he found Miender clearing the property Tuesday and offered to document the damage for insurance purposes.

Sparks said the cemetery can barely afford to pay for the grass, let alone major tree removal.

A limited budget doesn’t allow for the cemetery to depend upon insurance.
